Planting Trees, Planting Hope
February 14, 2026“In What Ways Can I Show Care for Creation in My Daily
Choices?”
“As Pope Francis reminds us in Laudato Si’, true care for our common home includes concern for both the earth and the people who depend on it. By walking together in solidarity, we protect creation while also uplifting human life and dignity.”
Every sunrise over the fields of Maleba Farm reminds us that creation is not merely a resource to use, but a sacred gift from God entrusted to our care. The soil beneath our feet, the water that nourishes the crops, the trees dancing with the wind, and the animals sharing this earth with us all speak quietly of God’s presence and love.
In his encyclical Laudato Si’, Pope Francis invites us to rediscover our responsibility toward our common home. He reminds us that care for creation is not only for scientists, leaders, or environmental organizations. It begins with ordinary people making faithful choices every single day. The question for each of us is simple but important: In what ways can I show care for creation in my daily choices? Perhaps it begins with gratitude. A grateful heart wastes less.
When we appreciate food as God’s blessing, we avoid unnecessary waste. When we value water, we use it responsibly. When we recognize the beauty of nature, we stop treating the earth carelessly.
Care for creation also means choosing simplicity over excess. In a world that often encourages endless consumption, we are called to live wisely and responsibly. Small actions matter:
- reducing waste,
- planting trees,
- caring for the land,
- conserving energy,
- recycling, when possible,
- and supporting practices that protect human dignity and the environment.
At Maleba Farm, we continue learning that agriculture itself can become a form of prayer and stewardship when it respects both people and nature. Every seed planted with care becomes a sign of hope for the future.
But Pope Francis also reminds us that environmental care cannot be separated from care for people. Whenever we show compassion to the poor, protect the vulnerable, or work for justice and peace, we are also caring for creation. The cry of the earth and the cry of the poor are closely connected.
Another important way of caring for creation is by supporting projects that protect both the
environment and human dignity. When you support Maleba Farm, you are not only supporting agriculture, but also supporting life itself.
Your support helps create employment opportunities for local people and allows families to earn an honest living for their daily needs. In this way, caring for creation also becomes caring for people. A healthy environment and a dignified human life always go together.
Every contribution made to Maleba Farm becomes a sign of hope — helping families put food on the table, educating children, strengthening the local community, and encouraging sustainable use of the land entrusted to us by God.
This month, let us take a moment to examine our daily choices. What habits can we change?
What waste can we reduce? How can we teach younger generations to love and respect God’s creation? We may not solve every environmental challenge overnight, but together, through prayer, awareness, and faithful daily actions, we can become better stewards of the beautiful world God has given us. May the spirit of Laudato Si’ continue to inspire us to live with humility, gratitude, and responsibility toward our common home.
“Lord, teach us to care for creation with wisdom, love, and reverence, so that future generations may also rejoice in the beauty of Your world.”
